ART AS PART OF THE SOLUTION
Join Us In Creating A Positive Environment
For Communication and Understanding In Your Community.

Every Body Dances! Every Body Shines!
Alana Shaw, co-artistic director and founder of Turning the Wheel Productions brings more than 35 years of experience and training in dance, music, and the visual arts to the collaborative process.
Turning the Wheel Productions, a national, non-profit, intergenerational Dance/Theatre company brings together diverse groups in an artistic forum that fosters dialogue, renewal and understanding, electrifies change, and establishes an ethic of caring for and accepting each other and our differences. Through the process of guided artistic expression and the collaboration required to create and produce a performance, strong connections are forged and new supportive and diverse communities evolve.

Focus on Art as Part of the Solution
Art has the power to elevate, to enlighten, and to celebrate. Even beyond the audiences who enjoy the art, the greatest insights, power and growth are for the participants who join their talents and visions to create the work of art. Turning the Wheel uses this power to foster communities, build leaders, and teach the joy of self-expression to thousands who have never before explored these parts of themselves. On every level, this work builds, strengthens and enriches communities.

Focus on Youth
Turning the Wheel served over 2000 children, teens, and young adults nationally in this year alone.
School performances and residencies lasting from 8 weeks to an entire school year create an environment where young people share their histories, grow into cohesive teams, and develop a performance based on their own stories. In the process, leaders emerge, older students mentor younger ones, and a new community is established.

Outreach to high-risk youth with opportunities to give, share their talents, and be seen and heard are central to our programming. This includes “last chance” schools, teen parents, and kids in rehab programs, as well as kids struggling desperately for identity and balance within the mainstream educational system. Evaluations show that our model is particularly effective with young people at risk of depression, learning challenges and substance abuse.
Mentorship training and leadership development present opportunities for high school and college students to mentor younger kids. A number of Turning the Wheel’s youth leaders have gone on to teach and perform professionally in the community.
A MESSAGE FROM ALANA
A Vision of Bringing Art and Life Together
Everything that we do in Turning the Wheel is an attempt to come back into relationship with our interdependence as human beings, and with the need for love, not power, to form the basis for how we live on the earth. We are passionately committed to building and sustaining transformative communities that are inclusive of all people, and that reach for and model unconditional love and acceptance as the norm.
These communities are safe places to express our authentic, creative selves, through dancing and singing and sharing our stories with each other. The model is highly collaborative and empowering for all participants.
Thank you for your support and generosity!
